I was born in the summer, in a little village in Friuli, a Northeast Region of Italy.
When I was a child I had two passions: playing piano and dancing.
Meanwhile I spent my days drawing and colouring, creating little comics that I sold to my neighbours. The oldest drawing that I still keep with me, is Mr Magoo's portrait; I made it at the age of two.
I've always loved animals: dogs, cats, rabbits, sheep, goats, geese, ducks, turtles, hedgehogs, silkworms... When I was little I dreamt to become a vet.
But when I grew up, almost by chance, I found myself becoming an illustrator.
So far I have illustrated about forty books for the following publishers:
Anicia, Arka, Bilboquet, Campanotto, Castalia, C’era una volta…, Einaudi Ragazzi, EL, Emme, Falzea, Fatatrac, Harper Collins, Il Messaggero, Interlinea, Logos, OQO, Oxford University Press, Pulcinoelefante, Raffaello Ragazzi, San Paolo, Societa’ Filologica Friulana, Sterling Publishing.
My books have been translated into English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Catalan, Galician, Basque, Greek, Estonian, Czech, Polish, Finnish, Swedish, Korean, Chinese.
The books "Adalgisa e Margherita” by Castalia and “I cuochi innamorati” by Anicia, were selected for the tv series “Libri animati”, a coproduction of Rai Fiction and Martoon.
I have not just illustrated books but also board games for the German publisher Ravensburger and for the American publisher Apegames. I designed and painted costumes for the theatre production “La porta delle stelle”, by the acting company “I Sassi”, from Matera. I illustrated advertising posters and packaging for international companies. I created illustrations for CD covers, magazines and newspapers. I painted fourteen murals for the Philadelphia Zoo, that won the 2014 Top Honours Exhibit award from the Association of Zoos & Aquariums for the Exhibit of the Year.
I collaborate with schools, universities and libraries running workshops and lectures for children and adults.
In 2008 I was invited to Teheran by the Italian Embassy, to run a workshop for Iranian illustrators. A book was then published with all the artworks produced during the workshop.
I have exhibited my work in more than eighty solo and group exhibitions, such as Bologna
Children’s Book Fair, Children's illustration Exhibition in Sarmede, Biennal of Illustration Bratislava, Biennal of Illustration Barreiro, American Illustrators Society Exhibition in New York, International Board On Books for Young People, Rio De Janeiro, Itabashi Art Museum, Tokyo.
